Id-ul-Fitr Festival is known as the "Festival of the Breaking of the Fast". This happens as soon as the new moon is sighted at the end of the month of fasting. The festival is intended to be celebrated with joy and there are special foods which are prepared and shared among friends and neighbors.
On this festival the people who have distributed the alms before assemble in the Idgah. They are led by the Imam and then they recite prayer. The idgah is a huge place which is set aside for the large congregations. This is also for people who will attend the special Eid prayer early in the morning. This place could also be an open field or flat piece of ground. Only such festival days for congregational prayers, mosque is the appropriate place.
During the holy month of Ramadan, Allah gave Prophet Muhammad the Holy Qur'an. It happened once that the Muhammad had a vision where an angel Jibril told him how Allah wanted people to live. These words of Allah were revealed to Muhammad through the angel over a period of 23 years. All these words together form the Qur'an.
Islam also follows a unique approach for celebrating the festival of Eid. After the namaz, Muslims are supposed to celebrate the day. This is done by greeting one another at home and in the neighborhood. People visit each other's homes and share meals with special dishes and desserts. The children receive gifts and sweets.
'Fitr' is the word which is derived from the word 'fatar'. This means 'breaking'. Another meaning also suggests that it is derived from the word fitrah or 'alms'. There are some Sunni Muslims who believe that fitr comes from fitrat. This means 'nature'. Id-ul-Fitr is the celebration of God's magnanimity in giving nature as the greatest gift to mankind. This festival is celebrated on the first day of the new moon in Shawwal. This festival marks the end of Ramadan.
The festival starts in the morning where everyone takes a bath, wears new or clean clothes. They apply perfume, have dates or some other sweet. After that, they go to the mosque for offering the prayers. It is noted that men wear white clothes as it is a symbol of purity. According to the Quran, it is on this day that Allah has intended a dole for every Muslim who is free. Alms are given to people on this auspicious day.
Do Rakat Namaz is a special prayer and it is offered in the mosque. Sadaqah Fitr is a charitable gift which is offered for breaking the fast. People who even do not perform the rojas have to give alms. The 30-day fast is broken on Id-ul-Fitr. This is done with sumptuous feasts and also people embrace each other three times.
